چکیده

We investigate the relationship between the effective diffusivity and effective drift of a particle moving in a random medium. The velocity of the particle combines a white noise diffusion process with a local drift term that depends linearly on the gradient of a gaussian random field with homogeneous statistics. The theoretical analysis is confirmed by numerical simulation. For the purely isotropic case the simulation, which measures the effective drift directly in a constant gradient background field, confirms the result previously obtained theoretically, that the effective diffusivity and effective drift are renor-malized by the same factor from their local values. For this isotropic case we provide an intuitive explanation, based on a spatial average of local drift, for the renormalization of the effective drift parameter relative to its local value. We also investigate situations in which the isotropy is broken by the tenso-rial relationship of the local drift to the gradient of the random field. We find that the numerical simulation confirms a relatively simple renormalization group calculation for the effective diffusivity and drift tensors.

We investigated the effect of noise on propagation of two interacting particles pairs in a quasi one–dimensional random potential. It is shown that pair diffusion is strongly enhanced by short range interaction comparing with the non–interacting case.

Recent numerical results for a model describing dispersive transport in rice piles are explained by mapping the model to the depinning transition of an interface that is dragged at one end through a random medium. The average velocity of transport vanishes with system size L as < v >∼ L2−D ∼ L−0.23, and the avalanche size distribution exponent τ = 2 − 1/D ≃ 1.55, where D ≃ 2.23 from interface d...

We study the localization length of few interacting particles in a random potential. Concentrating on the case of three particles we show that their localization length is strongly enhanced comparing to the enhancement for two interacting particles.

In this work, we study some general property of a strongly correlated electron system defined on a lattice. Assuming that the lattice system exhibits off-diagonal long-range order, we show rigorously that this assumption would lead to Meissner effect. This generalizes previous results of continuous case to a lattice electron system.
